Hit the High (Ad) Spots Contest

in Announcements

IMPORTANT UPDATE: THE DEADLINE HAS BEEN CHANGED TO GIVE YOU UNTIL 11:59PM EST (GMT-5) ON THURSDAY, JANUARY 26TH TO FINISH.

Missed your chance to win a copy of RPG Maker VX Ace in our Let’s Make a Scene competition? Well here is your chance to try again.

This is a special contest though because not only is it a contest, its a try out! RPG Maker VX Ace needs a new promo video, for obvious reasons (seriously go back one blog post and try to watch that thing all the way through), so we are looking to you the fans to find the person to make one.

So how are we going to make this selection? With a contest.

What do you get out of it? A free copy of RPG Maker VX Ace + early release.

What are your responsibilities if you win? Create a new promo video for RPG Maker VX Ace using your new free copy.

So what’s this contest about? Trailers. Video game trailers to be exact. Here are the rules:

  • Produce a ~1:30 second ad spot for your game and upload it to Youtube. Email the link to the trailer to community@rpgmakerweb.com with the title line of “Hit the High (Ad) Spots Entry”.
  • The trailer is to be for an RPG Maker XP or RPG Maker VX project.
  • The trailer may not contain any resource that you do not have the rights to use.
  • The trailer may be for a project you have made in the past, are in the process of making now, are going to make in the future, or even a project you never intend to make at all.
  • The trailer can have already been made before the contest began, just make sure that it obeys all the other rules.
  • All entries must be emailed by 11:59 PM January 26th EST (GMT-5).

Need some tips? I asked a friend of mine who happens to be a film student and this was his advice:

  • -Show, don’t tell: A trailer is PURELY VISUAL so there’s no reason you shouldn’t be able to back-up your claims
  • -Make sure it has good flow: You never want some JARRING TRAILER that is just hard to watch
  • -Style: Since all RM games generally look the same you need something to differentiate your trailer from everyone elses. That’s where style comes in.

Good luck to everyone and I’m looking forward to all the entries. The winner will be determined by a panel of Judges consisting of one member put forth by each of the following fan communities: RPGMakerVX.net, RPGMakerVXAce.net, RPGMaker.net, and RPGRevolution.com.

the 22nd is 7 days away.

  • BROKEN MESSIAH

I missed the first one but Im right on time with this one

  • Girl

I don’t know how to do it! I don’t have a camcorder. I don’t want screen shots I want smooth animation without a bunch of crumby screen shots.

    • Girl

Okay good news I am being lent one! Phew I might beable to do this after all!

    • http://blog.rpgmakerweb.com Nick Palmer

You need to use video capture software, such as Camstasia, Camstudio, Hypercam, etc.

      • Girl

I have it on here now and I was nervous filming it so my voice would be lower than normal. Usually it sounds high.

  • Water Knight

So, all I need to do is an ad, right? Am I right to believe that I don’t have to show in-game content for this one?

    • http://blog.rpgmakerweb.com Nick Palmer

The best advice I can give is to remember to keep in mind what is being chosen: Someone to do the new Promo video for VX Ace. Showcasing the kind of talents that would be needed to do that is probably the best idea.

One more question, I can use the graphics provided in the RTP of RPG Maker VX?

        • http://blog.rpgmakerweb.com Nick Palmer

          Absolutely.

  • chessplayerjames

Can we record audio with this (or were we supposed to anyway)? Like, can I narrate some of the awesome features?

    • http://blog.rpgmakerweb.com Nick Palmer

      Yes, you can.

Hello, I hope I’ll enter with my idea. I don’t think my one has much chances of getting to first place but maybe third…

Also, I have a question. Can the Trailer be shorter than 1:30 seconds?
    e.g. 1 min/50 seconds.
    and
Can it be few seconds longer?
    e.g. 5 to 10 seconds.

    So…. Wish everyone good luck!

The tilde is shorthand for approximately. Meaning yes, I suspect a lot will be a bit shorter or longer than 1:30. The basic idea is to keep it somewhat around that length.

Are we allowed more than one entry?

    • http://blog.rpgmakerweb.com Nick Palmer

      One entry per person.

      • Girl

I accidently sent aan unedited one so ignore the one that doesn’t say ignore in title.

        • Girl

I have a hotmail email with same adress by the way.

  • Wash

The trailer can have a little more of the 1:30 minutes lenght?

For exemplo 1:40 or 2:00 minutes?

    • http://blog.rpgmakerweb.com Nick Palmer

      Yes, that is fine.

      • Wash

Can I use CC license music?

        • http://blog.rpgmakerweb.com Nick Palmer

Creative Commons is fine. Please put the credits for it in the video description if you do that please.

  • yamina-chan

Ah, I wish I had seen this earlier. To bad.
Good luck to anyone who’s enerting tough ^^

  • Sin

Can it be 2:10 – 2:20 minute lenght?
Because the logo ocups a certain time space…sorry ^^’

  • Water Knight

I know I’m behind by a few hours but can I still make it? I just need to upload and mail…

    • http://blog.rpgmakerweb.com Nick Palmer

I accepted any entry that made it to me by 8am EST on Friday, which was 8 hours after the contest officially ended.

If you didn’t get it in by then, sorry.

  • MISTER BIG T
