Let’s Make a Scene Voting

Now is the time to begin the final stages of determining who will be crowned the winner of the Let’s Make a Scene contest!

First, I would like to thank the other Judges who cut the entries down to the top 8. They were: Archeia Nessiah of RMN, Sevith of RPGMakerVXAce.net, Nathanial Benton, the creator of Fated Haven, and Jason Perry as That Ornery Guy. Thank you to all four of these great people for going through all these entries with me last night.

We really had a lot of fun going through all 40 of these, and it was a tough job to pick out our favorites, but we finally managed to do it. Thank you to everyone who entered and congratulations to the people who passed on to the top 8.

Let's Make a Scene FinalistsDownload the top 8 and Vote below! Voting ends at 11:59PM EST(GMT-5:00) on January 7th. Note: PLEASE WATCH ALL THE ENTRIES BEFORE VOTING. This should not be a popularity contest, its about who made your favorite scene. If you aren’t going to watch them, don’t vote.

IMPORTANT: If you experienced errors playing the files, please redownload, the file has just been rezipped and uploaded (2:00AM GMT-5:00, January 5th)

Also there is an honorable mention for a great scene made by Indrah that unfortunately had to be disqualified due to an odd script error caused it to fail on half the computers it ran on. For the judges though that were able to play it, we found it to be exceptionally made, with excellent atmosphere and writing. You can download the honorable mention cutscene here.

VOTING OVER. CHECK IN TOMORROW TO SEE THE WINNERS.

  2. I was so set on the idea that I would make the top 8, but now I’m humbled by the work of others. I plan on really spending time with these cut-scenes, enjoying them, voting on who I think made the best one, and learning from them.

    Congrats to all the finalists!

    • Sorry for the double-post, just want to update with: wow. I don’t begrudge not winning at all. This stuff is amazing.

  3. close call between Hirei and Sailerius, but i went for Hirei. I loved how they are both small prequels to their main projects.

  4. Wish I could vote on Indrahs, it’s my favorite. I’m not going to vote though because unfortunately the other cut scenes either bored me or was hard for me to follow. To top it off, I couldn’t even play Hirei or Sailerius due to some RGSS.dll error. I feel like it would be unfair to them if I voted since I didn’t play their projects. Good luck to whoever wins, I regret not entering now xD

  5. after seeing all the scenes, i think i’ll pick bunny :D it’s hard for me to choose between bunny , the hunter, or sailerius ,because i love that kind of scene LOL., well the rest aren’t bad too :D

and to be honest, that honorable cutscene by indra were fantastic, the dying witch made the scene looks sooo good.

  6. Too bad Indrah’s cutscene didn’t make it. It was expertly done.

I really liked the scenes from MisterA, PentagonBuddy and TheHunter8.
RavenTDA was excellent, but the voice-acting wasn’t up to my standards. I decided on Bunny’s. It was short and sweet.

    • We didn’t do a traditional scoring/detail section when judging because we found it unnecessary. All we were doing was picking the top 8, and any scoring details would have interfered with the public voting process (if we made it public). All the Judges just watched them all, then we discussed it until we came up with a top 8 that we could mostly agree to.

As for the other… 32+ entries. I’m not going to put them up. Nothing is stopping people from putting their own up on their own in other places, but several were disqualified for using music that they didn’t have the rights to, and a few were just really bad. And I don’t want to have that up here for ridicule.

      Remember everyone, keep practicing!

  7. [By the way, in case it wasn't obvious, I'm Indrah, the one who made "The end of the Witch of Lorven"]
TT^TT Thanks for the praise, Kristina and Seiryuki! And good look to the finalists~
For those who couldn’t watch the cutscene due to the traitorous script error, here is a youtube recording of it: http://youtu.be/iOYQ3p3D0vg
(There are threads for it in the ACE and VXnet forums too)

Any feedback back there is more easy to track, so drop me a line (or youtube, if you really can’t post) if you can!

And with that I’ve shamelessy plugged and advertised myself. I’m done >D

  8. I’m not sure if my entry got disqualified or not… Would it be disqualified if I had used music from games (eg. Final Fantasy)?

  9. I’m very pleased that I got to be a finalist. I haven’t gotten this close in a contest in the last 15 years.

  10. and of course i didnt make the cut so thats it…..no 1 cares about good eventing…. just stupid scripts that dont even belong to you

    • No, it has nothing to do with the scripts at all. We voted based on the eventing, and use of the scene environment. If you didn’t make the top 8, there was a good reason ;)

    • I’m sorry if you feel that the judging was handled badly, though I think you are wrong, but even if that’s the case do you really think the appropriate response is to disparage the other entries?

  11. All of the entries are worthy of winning. Each has its own charm. For me the final vote came down to two – Bunny and Heiri, with RavenTDA close behind – but I voted for the scene that left me feeling that I absolutely *had* to see what happens next. Bunny’s scene left me with a feeling of “WTF?!” and a strong desire to know more, but Heiri’s scene won in the end for its simple charm and appeal. Congrats and congrats again to all those who made it into the Top 8. (I just wish my Windows CD had arrived in time. “Gotta be in it to win it!” ^_^)

  12. hkoz scene is awesome..it;s really the best..i think it’s a new idea to use
hope it will be the winner – For sure :D - cuz it really deserves..

  13. I’m happy I made the top 8. It was a little rough getting it done since I didn’t notice the contest until the 1st. My husband helped submit it because I don’t have internet now. But it looks like it was worth it. I’m glad you guys like my first attempt at voice acting.

  14. It was a hard choosing my favorite…but I thought the atmosphere of PentagonBuddy’s was the best. I’d really like to play that game.

Legend of Dnasman was a really close second for me. The banter was cute and funny and I was entertained.
